This project is fencing 2,200 metres of Obi Obi Creek over two adjoining properties – managing livestock access and completing the establishment of a fenced
riparian zone between Maleny and Gardners Falls. Alternative off stream watering is being installed for the livestock, and the endangered remnant vegetation on both properties will be enhanced through extensive weed management. The project will complement the recent LBCCG project on the Erowal property upstream, planned projects fencing and revegetating Walkers Creek, and the extensive environmental activities occurring on the Maleny Community Precinct – immediately across the Obi Obi Creek.
Stage 1 weed management is underway on the project.
The aim of Stage 1 is to clear a path through lantana, yellowberry and small leaf privet to enable fencing (straight lines are cheaper and result in a stronger fence). Follow up weed management will be completed over several months and will include hand clearing, splatter gun spraying of large lantana thickets and follow up spraying along the fenceline. Staged management takes into account the growth stages of the weeds – particularly the lantana as the splatter gun technique especially requires actively growing plants.
